Interreg is one of the main instruments of the EU for supporting “European Territorial Cooperation” through project funding. Interreg financed under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) strengthens cooperation between regions and countries within the EU. As part of the EU’s Cohesion Policy, Interreg plays a vital role in promoting regional development, cohesion, and reducing economic disparities. Interreg has total EUR 10.1 billion budget that comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Project funding varies depending on the specific program and type of project being supported.
Eligibility criteria
A wide range of organisations are eligible to apply, including associations and authorities from local up to federal-state level; micro, small and medium-sized enterprises; education and training centres; research institutions; public services, and non-governmental and non-profit organisations.
Application Process and Timeline
Like other ERDF programmes, Interreg programmes are implemented under shared-management by the Member States and the European Commission, involving a number of different bodies responsible for administering the programme and assisting projects. The REC4EU project is funded under Interreg Europe. This project focuses on facilitating the uptake of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) across Europe by addressing challenges related to creating and running RECs. It aims to strengthen regional support systems for the development of RECs, improving local governance and services for communities transitioning to renewable energy
