Description
The Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition Incentive Scheme (SDE++) provides subsidies to companies and non-profit organisations that generate renewable energy or reduce CO2 emissions on a large scale. The SDE++ is an operating subsidy. This means that you will receive a subsidy during the operating period of your project. You may be able to apply for a Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition (SDE++) subsidy if you are planning to produce renewable energy or to use carbon-reducing technologies.

type of funding
Subsidies
Funding amount
Varies by project and technology. The subsidy covers the difference between the cost of energy production and the market price, with yearly budgets allocated based on project types and emission reduction potential.
Eligibility criteria
Open to businesses, public entities, and energy cooperatives in the Netherlands. Projects must demonstrate their contribution to renewable energy generation or emission reductions.
Application Process and Timeline
Applications are submitted to Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and projects are evaluated based on their technical feasibility and contribution to climate goals. Subsidies are awarded over multiple years, depending on energy production and emission reductions.
Evidence Of Success
Many projects have utilized SDE++ subsidies to install additional wind turbines, generating clean electricity for the local grid and reducing CO2 emissions in the area.
Expert Opinion
SDE++ is ideal for energy communities with larger-scale projects that contribute to both renewable energy generation and carbon emission reductions. It provides long-term financial stability for projects in solar, wind, geothermal, and more, ensuring that community projects can compete in the energy market while supporting the country’s climate transition.
